May 23th,2016 of Guyana time, Wesleyan Church was full of laughs and songs. The Chinese principal of Confucius Institute at the University of Guyana together with two volunteers made a cordial exchange with about 180 church members, aiming to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the independence of the republic of Guyana. 

 This activity has a theme of “ celebrating our heritage and transmission”. The representatives of six ethnics went on the stage in turns and welcome the coming of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the republic of Guyana in varied ways, such as making speech, exhibition and sing songs. Confucius Institute at the University of Guyana, as the representative of Chinese ethics, went on the stage in the second order and presented a history of Chinese people’ endeavor in Guyana during these 160 years. The  principal of Confucius Institute at UG also introduced the main contents of Chinese surnames, religion and Confucianism to the audience, which promoted Guyana people’s understanding of Chinese culture. Besides, teachers and students sang the Chinese song “The Moon Represents my Heart”, accompanied by guitar. Their performance won warm applause.   

This activity, combined cultural exchange with the celebration of Independence Day tightly and breaking the single model of cultural exchange, promoted the unity of six ethnics in Guyana and reflected Chinese’s respect and acknowledgment to the local culture. Benefited from this activity, local people knew more about China and Chinese culture.
